Kukenhof gardens still worth it in May before closing

The gardens close May 11, 2025. Is it still worth visiting that last weekend or will the tulips be mostly gone? Or is it weather related so difficult to know?

We went to Keukenhof on May 11, 2017. It was still beautiful. Here is my trip report with lots of pictures. Plenty of blooming tulips.

Is Huntington Gardens in CA worth visiting in August as opposed to in June? These are both highly engineered products, with irrigated plantings vigorously replaced when they appear to be flagging. Keukenhof also has Perennial and Evergreen gardens, as well as vast numbers of bulbs. Nobody can predict what the weather will be like a year from now. It's perfectly true that some visitors report a nicer experience than others, but it is meaningless to say in June, 2024 what your experience will be on May 11, 2025.

If you like public gardens, you should go to Keukenhof if you are nearby in season. If you want to visit a bulb farm, that is a different project. But we saw enough bulb fields from Keukenhof's perimeter fence to satisfy US. CROWDING is always a problem at Keukenhof, especially on weekends.

We went in 2023 in May just before closing. Definitely not peak, but well worth the visit and no crowds at all on the weekday afternoon we were there.

You can chase "perfection", or, like us, enjoy what is there and still in good shape. The park is pretty beautiful by itself, and the tulips are the main, but not only reason, to go there and wander.

But, sure, a rainy day might make it less fun, and the season could start early (or late), so you may have worse or better tulips than we saw. Regardless, a "no brainer" for me if there during the season.

Definitely! They plant so that blooms occur throughout the short season. We went on the last day of April. It was such a beautiful day and the gardens are beautiful.

I agree with Tom...the park itself would be beautiful even with no flowers. I was there on one of the last days this spring & while many of the flowers were past their prime & the surrounding fields weren't in bloom, it was still incredible & the highlight of my trip. Also, don't miss out on the very tasty frites in the food truck area :)

We were there on the very last day of the season. Gorgeous. Be sure to take a quick look at the orchid house, too.
