KLM Airlines and Delta

I have never been on KLM or anyone I known. Flying from Basel to Amsterdam and then to Boston. How small are the planes for KLM? Any problems with a carry on and personal item as long you follow the guidelines?

Your "KLM" flight from Amsterdam to Boston may actually be on Delta (KLM doesn't have very many flights to the US anymore).

Regardless, for seat dimensions, you need to check your specific flight (not just "the airline" and not just the route, you need to check your specific flight on your specific day). Go to seatguru.com, you will see all the details for the aircraft and the seat you're going to be in (note: I would never, ever book any flight without checking this first...before you pick your flight). Of course, things may change up to the moment you board, but you can see details for the aircraft and seat you are scheduled to fly on.

For carry on and personal items, if you follow their rules (they're not "guidelines") why would you expect problems? Check their website for the rules, understand them, follow the rules and you will be fine.

It’s not a question of how small are the planes, but how small of a plane do they use for this route. You can find the aircraft model linked to your reservation and on Seat Guru. KLM is a large legacy carrier that has been around forever. They are part of the Delta/Air France/ KLM Group. Expect similarities.

Yeah, looks like Basel-AMS is an Embraer 175, 2 seats on each side of the aisle. AMS-BOS is operated by Delta in an Airbus A330.

I've flown KLM from Vancouver to Amsterdam to Kigali, Rwanda RT. A total of 4 , 9 hour flights. Positive experiences on each flight. I would gladly fly them again.

I flew KLM back to the states from Amsterdam a couple of years ago. LOVED the experience!

Full disclaimer - the entire trip was booked via the Delta website, but my flight home (via Delta's booking) was on KLM.

I had never flown KLM until I went to Europe twice a couple years ago (to Hungary and The Netherlands). I absolutely loved it. In my experience, the Dutch people are INCREDIBLY nice and hospitable, and apparently that carries over to their business model. They also feed you very well on long flights 😁. I look forward to flying their airline again when we return this spring.

We have not flown KLM for many years , but I can say they were the best flights we have ever taken. The first flight they moved us from coach to business or first class upstairs ...I have no idea why, but certainly did not argue.... These were the largest most plush leather seats I have ever seen!! My husband is a photographer and we went several times to Amsterdam and all over the country. The second time we had regular seats but for some reason they brought us jenever in several lovely ceramic Dutch houses. The group around us asked us how we got them! No idea, but they were certainly lovely and created a stir in coach.

After two horrible experiences with British Air we flew KLM San Fran to Amsterdam last year and then a KLM intra Europe flight to Venice. We returned on a Delta Venice to Atlanta, Atlanta to SFO. The KLM flights were excellent. But I we were in business class. We had friends in economy and they were very happy. We are doing the same flight this summer SF0-AMS - AMS-SFO both are KLM operated and Delta Ticketed. I do agree with the post on using SeatGuru. Be sure to check back often on all your legs to be sure they don't change plane type. Apparently none of he airlines will notify you if this happens and you may find the seat you picked changed with a new aircraft type.
