Any one having trouble getting booked for day ahead arrival during king's day festival. We are arriving one day early for our tour of Europe as suggested but tour hotel for two weeks now has been vague or unwilling to respond to our one day early request, said due to king’s day, it’s a two day minimum, and then upped the price ( no rate) while checking with their marketing agent. That was a week ago and not helpful following up. We started trying to book two weeks ago. As a precaution, we’ve booked into an airport hotel so we don’t have a to sleep our first “get acclimated” night in the airport .
You don't say where you are joining your tour or when your flight arrives but you might consider:
Try hotels that are in suburbs, like Zandaam and reasonably priced. Haarlem is also a good choice - both are a short ride by train both from the airport and into Amsterdam. There appears to be availability with no minimum.
You can always stick with your hotel at the airport
If you can't find anything reasonable in Amsterdam, try Utrecht. There are some functional hotels, such as a NH and a Hampton, almost literally a few metres from the Utrecht Centraal, which is well served from both Schiphol airport and Amsterdam Centraal, with direct trains running a few times per hour and taking about 30 mins.
Utrecht has a nice historical centre and is, even jet-lagged, a good introduction to the Netherlands.
