Kinderdijk bicycling

The last time my husband and I were in the Netherlands, we biked through the country, allowing fantastic adventure and sightseeing. We are not taking our two children 10 and 15, but traveling via train. We will stay in Amsterdam area for a couple of nights and then travel SE to Nijmegen where my brother and sister in law live. We would like to take the kids on a day bike trip through the Kinderdijk area. I am looking for a nearby town or area to spend one night, and rent bikes to have a day biking adventure. Any ideas on a good place to base out of for this quick layover? Thanks.

Essentially: Amsterdam--> Kinderdijk area ( ??)--> Nijmegen

They rent bikes at a cafe at the entrance to Kinderdijk. What about Dortrecht?

Thank you, Suki-I was looking at Dortrecht as well.

I've realized we could make a day trip of it, as the train schedules are good. . I will look into bike rentals there: ).

Dordrecht is a interesting city, the oldest in this part of the Netherlands.
To get to and from Kinderdijk, you shouldn't forget the ferries, all leaving from the Merwekade at the north side of the city centre.
There is a small ferry, getting you across the river to Papendrecht. Papendrecht is more than forgettable, but once you've out of there, the cycling route via Oud-Alblas is very nice.
To make it more of an »adventure« take the Waterbus ferry back from Kinderdijk to Dordrecht, if only for approaching the city from the river.
Have nice weather!
