Hurried to this website for tickets and it looks like the combo bus/park tickets do not go on sale until mid-November…..??? Has anyone else seen this? Seeing how one of the main reasons we are taking this trip is to see these tulips this sends me into a tailspin…..makes me think just to make sure I get us in that i should get 2 tickets for April 2025 and worry about the transportation there later….anyone else had this panic trying to make certain they get these tickets? We are staying in Leiden.
There is absolutely no need to worry about tickets for the Keukenhof right now. Tickets for the Keukenhof rarely sell out and when they do it’s days in advance not 7 months in advance. If you want to travel to the Keukenhof by public transport, the most practical thing would be to wait until the combi-tickets are released. That way, your bus time aligns with your entry into the Keukenhof.
If you’re really anxious, you can of course book your tickets now. However there really is no need for it.
We purchased our combo tickets in January , and also reserved the bikes at the same time. No reason to worry now. The bus leaves from the Leiden train station. Altho timed tickets, they never seemed to look at the time, just zapped the tickets before we boarded the bus. Enjoy!
If you are that panicked about tickets, then just buy the entrance tickets now. But I wouldn't worry unless you are visiting over Easter, or a weekend.
when I go to the Keukenhof I buy them on the day. That way I can know what weather to expect. One year, maybe 2019, we drove towards the Keukenhof when the skies opened and we detoured into the motorway services just south of Schiphol Airport and had a meal at the La Place on the bridge over the highway. Our intention was to turn around and head back to Utrecht. Just finishing lunch the skies cleared, blue sky. Back in the car and over to the Keukenhof, and had a really good time.
I don't think I'd get them this far out.
Leiden is a good choice, on many levels.
Hi! We have one day available to visit the Keukenhof and that is the day we arrive in Amsterdam. I have been checking their website, but the combi-tickets keep getting pushed back. The website now says they will be available after 15 Feb (when I first started looking, it was 15 Jan). I am comfortable taking the train to Leiden and catching bus on our own, but are the Bus 854 tickets timed? I noticed a comment that in the past they are timed but the attendant didn't really check, just scanned them and sent you on your way. That makes me a bit uncomfortable. I am just a bit concerned about the Keukenhof selling out since we only have one day (a Friday). Does anyone know if I purchase tickets now and upgrade them to the combi-ticket later? Thank you for any advise you can provide!
Getting to the Keukenhof with public transport should not be an issue from Leiden. You can check options at https://9292.nl/en/ to see what may work for you. As you would not need to pre-book public transport, you may just need to procure the entry tickets.
There is absolutely no need to worry about tickets for the Keukenhof. The Keukenhof is huge and therefore very rarely sells out. The occasions when it was sold out was during the Easter weekend, but even then it only sold out a few days in advance when the weather forecast looked promising.
There is no way to upgrade tickets without public transport to combo-tickets at a later time, so I would advise everyone to just sit tight and wait for the combo-tickets to become available.
Just bought my Keukenhof tickets for April 2025!
As has been noted, there is no need to get tickets to Keukenhof far in advance. It has enough room to handle significant crowds. It's like a colorful forbidden city. It absorbs crowds.
My preference is to arrive early. The photos I take before the heavy crowds arrive mid-morning, have fewer random arms and feet from strangers in them. If you want pictures of the gardens, early is better.
Jane has bought her tickets. But I would note that temporary transportation to Keukenhof has many varied options, as well as less frequent municipal busses that pass that way all year long. Keukenhof is a tremendous .... industry ... and you will be able to find some way to get there. Obviously, if you are staying in Amsterdam, you might prefer a longer and more expensive temporary special bus route than the busses from Leiden.
Note that Keukenhof is always very crowded (not talking about "selling out", talking about physical situation.) Some people recommend weekdays and avoiding local holidays. I trust you understand that Keukenhof is a highly organized and engineered public garden, with evergreen and perennial sections, as well as vast amounts of bulb plots that are turned over at night so that there a blooms for the entire opening period of the park. It's not a good comparison, but I'm talking about Longwood Gardens or The Huntington. There are a couple of commercial bulb fields visible from the perimeter fence of Keukenhof.
There are lots of opportunities to eat inside Keukenhof, but there may be lines for service.
