We are going to be in the Amsterdam from may 7 to May 12. We want to see the tulips at Keukenhof Gardens before garden closes on May 10. What is the best way to get from downtown Amsterdam to the gardens? Is it worth paying for transportation a ticket through Viator? Does the garden sell out? I use a wheelchair.
The gardens themself, Keukenhof, sell transportation and entrance for a very reasonable price. I did it a few years ago from Leiden. I booked it online and it all worked well. I can’t help with the mobility issue however, but there were several people in wheelchairs in the gardens. Many strollers too.It is flat once you’re in.
As noted, the Keukenhof sells its own combination tickets, which includes round trip bus transport from several points. You would want one from Amsterdam RAI stop. The gardens and bus are wheelchair accessible. But there is only space for 1 chair per bus. Info available on the official website https://keukenhof.nl/en/
A buddy and I did the combo ticket + round-trip transportation from Amsterdam RAI yesterday. It worked out pretty well. I would suggest catching the earliest bus you can. As I recall, the bus started running at 7:30. There was already a line to get on the bus at 7:10 when we arrived at the site. Of note we are staying at the Motel One Amsterdam across the street from the RAI (convention center). It is a short 4-minute trek to the bus stop from the hotel.
Did you purchase your Combo tickets online? my understanding is that the final day of the Gardens is Sunday – are there still a lot of Tulips blooming?
The last opening day of the Keukenhof is Sunday May 10. That’s almost 3 weeks from now, so it’s still too early to tell if there will still be any tulips in bloom by then.
Of course! We are heavily into planning right now I was thinking we were there already and it was 8 May. Scary!
Yes, we bought our combo entrance/transportation ticket on the Keukenhof website.
Yes it is worth getting the combination ticket. I travelled to Keukenhof from Haarlem last year. I went on the last weekend it was open. As it was so late, a lot of flowers were dead. Still lots of tulips etc to be seen. It’s worth remembering that and the fields that you see from the windmill had no tulips, as it was so late. Enjoy your trip.

I believe I saw the many QBuzz employees at the RAI stop providing assistance to people with disability equipment. But I did not actually watch to see how they were accommodated. While it is 99% flat, note that Keukenhof is about 79 Acres. The few slopes are minimal, and associated with pumped water features, which IMHO are missable. There are, as noted in the TR, some good indoor exhibitions, which tend to be much more crowded than the outdoor paths and displays.
