Has anyone seen Leiden and Keukenhof in the same day? I'll be staying in Haarlem. In Keukenhof, I'd like to spend 2-3 hours in the gardens and another 1-2 hours on a bike outside of the gardens. In Leiden, I want to do the Rick Steves walk, and stop in at the American Pilgrim Museum (which doesn't open until 1PM). The walk takes 2 hours not counting sites. If you think I can fit both Keukenhof and Leiden in one day, which would you go to first? Rick says to go to Keukenhof early in the morning or late. I've heard it's crowded by 11 AM.
It seems this isn’t your first “can I do this in 1 day question”. There is never an easy answer to these type of questions, because there are many factors at play here. On what day do you want to do this? How will you travel between these places? Have you made an hour by hour schedule of how such a day would look like? At what time will you depart Haarlem? At what time do you plan to arrive at the Keukenhof? When will you leave? When will you pick up your bikes? When will you turn them in? When and how will you continue on to Leiden? Etc etc etc.
If you answered those questions you will see if you have enough time in your schedule to see and do all the things you want to. And you will have the answer to your “can I do this in 1 day question”.
Thank you for your help, Dutch_Traveler. I'll be using public transportation. After looking at (and answering) your questions, I'm realizing now that it's probably better to stop in Leiden a few days later, on my way to Delft (travelling by train). I've got 3 nights in Deflt. Thanks again. Very helpful.
