Within that canal ring (singel) is the city centre of Utrecht. Your hotel is right on the edge of it.

some good kitchen ware shops in Utrecht:
http://www.betsieskookwinkel.nl
https://www.vanpommeren.nl
a bit more mainstream: https://www.dille-kamille.nl/nl/content/123/utrecht/

Shopping can be done in that area and in Hoog Catharijne (a mall, between the centre and the railway station) https://hoog-catharijne.klepierre.nl

Between the Dom church and the University building, hidden away, you'll find the Kloostertuin (Monastery garden). http://pandhofvandedom.nl
Even right next to the dom tower, you'll find the Florahof (also a bit hidden away): https://www.bezoek-utrecht.nl/locaties/4057868425/flora-s-hof

By the way, are you sure you want to drive from Utrecht to Amsterdam? Your hotel is just a few minutes (on foot) away from Utrecht Centraal station.

The present castle is a late-19th-century construction, and it's some 45 mins walk from the nearest railway station (Vleuten). Read the Wikipedia entry to judge for yourself.

Hi Floris,

Thank you for your input of kitchen and home wares stores.

Dille & Kamille have locations in both AMS and Utrecht. Just wonder do both locations carry same items or AMS has bigger stores, so I can decide on only visit it at one location. Thanks.

We will take public transits, for the purpose of listing all places, I choose " car".

Dille & Kamille has stores all around The Netherlands. I have never noticed any real differences between the different locations.
