Hi, Ijmuiden is not in Amsterdam, it is where the locks are that join the north sea to the north sea canal. If your cruise is going to Amsterdam, it is unlikely that it will be docking in Ijmuiden. That's over 20 km from Amsterdam. I know that there is talk about Amsterdam not allowing cruise ships to dock in the city anymore but I think that's some way off. At the moment cruise ships dock at the PTA (Passenger Terminal Amsterdam) and you can walk to Central Station in about 15 minutes, or go 1 stop on the tram and then you are in central Amsterdam.

Not, it is actually IJmuiden that is our port. I know it's a bit away, that's the reason for the inquiry.

That information is not correct.
According to the public transport planner 9292.nl you need the #382 bus, running half-hourly from a bus stop (IJmuiden Badweg) across the road from the cruise terminal. It takes you to station Amsterdam Sloterdijk, where you can pick up a train to Amsterdam Centraal.

OP
Does your cruise ship offer a transfer that does not cost the earth?
