Is it necessary to get one of those wallets that protects your ID against electronic ID theft?

It is market hype, fear, trying to move a worthless product. It plays to paranola.

Necessary? No. Advisable? Only by those who stand to make money from them. If it makes you feel safer (like a security blanket), then go for it.

Don't waste your money! I wish marketers would get the message, but as long as they can play on paranoia that stuff will be around.

Do you even have a card that can be read remotely? Most credit and ATM/debit cards cannot. If there is no wifi symbol on the card, it cannot be read remotely. It is common with transit passes and building security ID cards.

And even if you do have a card or cards that work contactless, they only work with very, very close proximity (or you'd pay for someone else coffee each morning...) and have encryption built in to them.
