IAmsterdam Card

We'll be in Amsterdam for two full days. I am looking at the IAmsterdam card to cover transportation and several museums. Has anyone had any experience with this card?

Amsterdam is a very walkable city. The whole historical centre - from the Centraal Station to the Rijksmuseum - can be crossed in 45 mins.
It depends on the kind and number of museums whether the Amsterdam card is a good deal. There is also the Museumkaart, which gives free access to a huge number of museums. At EUR 59,95 it is already an economical deal if you intend to visit 4 or 5 museums. And it invites you to enter smaller, but not less interesting museums which you otherwise probably would have skipped. Here is the complete list of participating museums.

You will have to crunch the numbers to see if it is a good deal for you. But in general if you visit two covered sights, and use the trams three times you come out ahead. While Amsterdam is a very walkable city you also don't want to wear yourself out. so I find using the trams very useful.

One of the things I found appealing about the IAmsterdam card versus the Museumkaart was the transportation aspect. At this point, it sounds like a good deal for us.

Thanks for you input.

I guess it depends on which museums are at the top of your list. If it is Van Gogh as well as the Rijksmuseum (not on iAmsterdam) , you might consider the Museumkaart. My husband and I bought the Museumkaart and also 2-day tram tickets. Having the tram pass allowed us the flexibility to ride the tram, even if it was just for a short distance.

We will be in Amsterdam this Fall (2017) and wanted to see if there was a City pass like the one in Paris ( fantastic value and help). Read in Rick's update Amsterdam Book that the Museumkaart was the best. Went on line to see what else was available and ended up getting very confused. I call the Rick Steve's office and spoke with an Amsterdam specialist who assured me that the best value and most useful card is the Museumkaart. You cannot buy it until you are in Amsterdam, so don't fret. Suggest that you go to one of the museums that sell the card when the line is short! No more lines after that!
