I will be traveling to Amsterdam from 5/17 - 5/22/25, which is the week after the Keukenhof gardens close and the tours end. What options do I have to see tulips or flower fields while I am there? It looks like I can get a train from Amsterdam to Lisse. Would it be worthwhile to do this and will there still be flowers to see at that time? And is Lisse a nice town to visit and are there things to do and see there??
It has stayed open until that time in May, it all depends on the weather, etc. for the actual blooming season. The fields will be closed after that. Better to check with them. I live near the Skagit Valley Tulip fields which are still in the fields thru April, but the flowers will be cut and the earth turned under while the bulbs are harvested. They may do something similar. We do keep some of the enclosed display gardens, perhaps they do same. In any case you will be there at the very end of the field Tulips. You might find more gardens throughout the Netherlands near the many Castles and other public buildings.
I'm afraid that they won't be anything to see. The surrounding fields which are not for flowers but for bulbs will have long been cut and all you will see is grey sand. There is nothing at Keukenhof to see from the outside. I'm afraid you're a bit late.
There is not a train station at Lisse, you can get there by bus however that is not the best area for seeing, and I am afraid you will be too late. There are sidings as the train goes through.
