I will be visiting Amsterdam in early April this year. We're staying in Breda the first week, then moving to a hotel in Amsterdam for the next week. My husband will be working and I'm tagging along for fun, so all of my site seeing is done on my own :( Once we get to the hotel in Amsterdam I would like to visit Kinderdijk. Can you get to it from from Amsterdam using public transportation? And if so, how easy is it?
Take train to Rotterdam. Take Tram 7 ( left side of station) from train station to last stop at the Waterbus.. Waterbus to Kinderdijk. Easy to do.
The Waterbus is the most agreeable way.
Alternatives are the train to Rotterdam Lombardijen and pick up bus #93, or the train to Dordrecht and pick up the same bus at the other end of its journey. Dordrecht, by the way, is an interesting historical city. You could easily do it after Kinderdijk, either by taking the same Waterbus or the regular bus. Trains back to Amsterdam run every 15 mins.
The schedules can easily be consulted on the real-time public transport planner 9292.nl. Fill out »Kinderdijk Molenkade« as destination or departure point.
In April, I think the direct Waterbus to Kinderdijk is only available on weekends.

So on weekdays, you have to take a bus at train station Rotterdam Lombardijen (90 or 93) or Dordrecht.
I didn't realise that the buses from Rotterdam Lombardijen have different line numbers. The #90 and #93 run alternatingly every half hour. #90 goes to Utrecht, #93 to Dordrecht. The planner 9292.nl has a map function to show you the exact position of the bus stop.
Added:
Buses are increasingly refusing cash money, only accepting electronic payment (public transport pass or bank card). If you are not sure your bank or credit card will work, get yourself a TripKey pass to make use of public transport (trains, buses, trams and even the occasional ferry) a lot easier.
