My husband and I (we are in our 60's) are going to be in the Amsterdam area for 4 nights in late May (stopover to our trip to Italy). We are thinking of staying in Haarlem instead of Amsterdam. I have narrowed down my hotel choices to Hotel ML and Amarth Grand Hotel Frans Hal. They are located across from each other. Has anyone stayed in either of these and would you rate one over the other as a better choice?
I can't answer your specific question, but we spent our last day in the Netherlands in Haarlem last May, and vowed to stay in Haarlem next ime if we ever visited Amsterdam again. It was so lovely and far less crowed. Both hotels are in the ideal location. We had a wonderful warm sunny day alfresco lunch at Metzo just around the corner at Warmoesstraat 21. The street was filled with vines, flowers, bicycles, and charm galore.
Enjoy!
We stayed in the Boutique Staats Hotel, formerly an old school house. The neighborhood was incredibly quiet, but just a two minute walk to the train station. The service was great, and the rooms very modern. I highly recommend this hotel in Haarlem, and I can't wait to return! Safe travels!
