We have an early flight back to home and will be returning to Amsterdam the night before and would prefer to stay close to the airport. We will have seen the city for a few days when we arrive. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Here are the hotels closest to the airport:
The Sheraton is connected to the terminal via a pedestrian bridge.
The airport train from Amsterdam Centraal to Schiphol runs around the clock (though less frequently between midnight and 6am), so it wouldn't be a hardship to stay in the city center.

I think 2 of them are located on transit area, thus not accessible for boarding passengers. This is clearly explained on this page.

We also had an early morning flight and stayed at the
Citizen M. It is walking distance from the terminal. We liked it and would stay there again. It is very modern and a bit quirky, however. Check out the reviews on Trip Advisor and Booking.com.

Hi Barb,
I caught a 7 AM plane from Amsterdam to London City airport while staying in the city. The train to the airport is very, very easy. And I stayed in a hotel that was a five minute walk to the train station. So, if you want to spend your last night in Europe in Amsterdam having a nice dinner, it's absolutely doable. I do sympathize with desire to be close.
