Hotel Keizershof Amsterdam

Anyone with experience with Hotel Keizershof in Amsterdam? Noticed that the newest Rick Steves Amsterdam book omits this hotel, yet it was in 2014 Best of Europe and earlier books. Wondering why deleted.

We stayed at this hotel a few years ago and our experience was not good. Our room was on the fourth floor by way of a very steep spiral staircase. Room had a sink & shower but toilet was shared among five rooms--so one toilet shared by ten people was really icky. On a recent trip to A'dam we bid on Priceline and got NH Doelen for less money and loved it and the location.

We also had a nice stay at Hotel Doelen last September, 2014, but they are renovating and it sounds like they will close in July 2015 and not reopen until early 2016. We are going Sept 2015 and hope to find something comparable to the Doelen. The location was great! We could walk to restaurants and sites easily. Tram connections nearby were perfect. The breakfast was enjoyable and the dining room had a great canal view. They have an elevator - nice for travelers in their 60's who are not in the best shape and need to work harder on the travelling light concept! Sounds like there is renovation going on now and that it is not a good experience for May-June 2015 stays.
