Any suggestions as to small hotels close to Viking river cruise port? Will be staying 2 nights prior to cruise.
Wouldn’t it to be better to spend those two days centrally located in the city so you could easily walk most places? Or jump on a tram? Look at l’Ambassade in the Central Canal District.
Take a taxi when it is time to board your ship.
There are the Erik Vokel Suites right at the River Cruise Port, and the Double Tree Hilton just a little further away. Since the cruise port is next to Centraal station, they are also convenient to the old city. But then again, you really don't need to be located there unless that is what you really want.
Keep in mind that right behind the Erik Vokel Suites are the tracks exiting Centraal station and trains are going by constantly. Same applies to the Double Tree.

The Moevenpick hotel is adjacent to the river cruise port.
However, the port is a 5 minute walk from the Centraal station, so getting around is not a problem.
There is also a tram that runs a route from the Centraal Station to the port. but there is not much else around the area; it is very industrial as opposed to commercial.
We took an Avalon Cruise this past April and came in 3 days early.
We rented a house in Zandaam, a suburb through VRBO and took the train in to see the sights.
Getting there early will help you to adjust to the jet lag and you will be more prepared to enjoy your cruise.
Like others, select lodging that appeals to you. there are even houseboats to rent!
If you are interested, try to get a reservation at Martine's Table for one of your dinners.
We thoroughly enjoyed our evening!
Have fun and enjoy planning!
On our past trips we have always stayed In smaller owner operated hotels.. are any of the ones mentioned that type? If not any other suggestions.?

hey jonathan
been twice to amsterdam, first was an apartment with 4 of us, found on citymundo.com
second time with 4 we used houseboathotel.nl, you can also check houseboatrental.nl also i'd find something in town within the ring, and take tram or taxi to port, enjoy the city. lots of changes with hotels, rooms, apartments within their city limits, so can't help you with family owned hotel. hope this helps you out with some research.
you're not that far from my niece near lexington, hope you're okay with the flooding.
aloha
We stayed at the Room Mate Aitana hotel last summer. It's near the port. Great, modern hotel. I loved the location! Hotel was clean and not too expensive.
The Viking docking location may vary. River ships generally dock just east of Centraal Station. In the spring, however, some Viking ships may dock in an industrial area to the west. That's when tulip time cruises are running, and docking space is at a premium. So you're better off finding a hotel that's convenient to all the city attractions you're interested in. Then you can take a tram to Centraal Station and walk to your ship or take a taxi to the remote location. Viking usually runs a shuttle bus to the central city if you're docked remotely. I seem to remember people saying that it was a 30-40 minute ride.
