We are getting off of a river cruise after breakfast on September 3rd and our flight to the states is the next morning. We'd like an idea of where to stay that is either convenient to the cruise dock or convenient to the airport. If near the airport, is it possible to put our bags in a locker at the central train station for the day? Thanks for any help you can give us.

Thanks Dick - our flight is at 7:40 a.m. so we will need to get to the airport around 5:40 I think. If we stay in Amsterdam and take an early morning taxi, do you have any hotel suggestions? The last time we were there we stayed 3 nights at a B&B so not familiar with the hotels.

I'd do something different: go from the ship dock straight to Centraal station (they are very close). Leave the bags on lockers. Spend the day visiting Amsterdam. After dinner, go back to the station, take your luggage back from the locker, take a train and go to the airport hotel.
That way, you enjoy Amsterdam but sleep near the airport, in one of the hotels adjacent to the airport, without hassles next morning.

Andre's version sounds pretty attractive, since you have to leave that early. In the city, the Hotel Ibis Amsterdam Centre is practically in the train station.

Another option is to stay at the movenpick hotel next to the cruise ship terminal. From the hotel you can easily take a taxi to the airport on the morning of your flights.

I stayed at the Sheraton that is in the airport terminal last year. It was great and really convenient for early morning flights. I highly recommend it.
