Hotel choices in Amsterdam

I would like to stay in a hotel with a kitchenette for the 5-6 nights we will be in Amsterdam in early September.
We will be quite jet lagged so its easier to recover when we can hang out in a studio with these accommodations

Right now just looking at Hilton or Marriott I see a few options:

1) Element Amsterdam which is Gelderlandpleinbuurt on A.J. Ernststraat 577
Or
2) Residence Inn Houthavens Danzigerkade 177

The Residence in is really my first choice but I have a concern about accessibility to town from there. Is it an industrial remote area? Is it easy to catch a bus or tram from there to do grocery shopping or to see the museums etc? Mostly I don’t want to end up in a remote area with no services since we will be up at all hours due to jet lag…..

At the Element…how long does it take to get into the area where the museums are? Is this a convention area or some other specialized area for travelers?

If you know of any other kitcenette type rooms in the Amsterdam area please let me know. We are not devoted to these two hotel chains (we just have a lot of points at both!)

Also if you think we should just forego the kitchenette idea and stay in the central area of Amsterdam I’d love to hear that. This is our first time in Netherlands and we are excited to explore Amsterdam and then we will spend another 5 nights down by The Hague, Rotterdam or Leiden. I’ll do a separate post on that, but feel free to comment now if you want to say something…..thanks so much! Carol

You might check out the Hotel Residence Le Coin. I haven’t stayed there yet, but I’ve booked there for May. Central location, kitchenette features, good reviews.

Thx Chris ….I just looked and there is no availability for the 3 rooms categories I checked for the second week of September …..it must book up far in advance? Or there’s a special meeting in town that uses this hotel? Looks interesting though and thx for the tip

Have you tried AirBB or VRBO? If you are adventurous, there are houseboats on the canals for rent.

Hi Indiana…no AirBnB not an option for us…they are unethical and screw too many people….can’t support a company like that!

We did Amsterdam for a week last August and wanted to stay close to downtown so we could walk to everything.
It worked very well and we didn't spend a fortune, cost was $1000 for seven nights with breakfast included. We didn't have a kitchenette, but had free breakfast. It was near the Anne Frank House. It was the Nadia Hotel.

If you stay in a hotel or apartment away from the city center, then you will have to pay every day to go into the city and will lose time.
