My husband and I are spending two nights in Amsterdam. Which hotel is in a better location as far as safety, trams, rooms and sights? Hotel Brouwer or Hotel de Leydsche Hof? Also, Hotel dLH has mosquito netting on the beds. Are mosquitoes a problem in Amsterdam?
I'm sure you'd be happy with either one. It sounds like Hotel de Leydsche Hof has larger rooms, as well as mosquito nets. When I stayed at Hotel Brouwer, I had a small, cozy single and it was early November, so not mosquito weather. It was walkable to the train station and felt quite safe, despite a few prostitutes stationed on the block.
Thank you for the response. We live in small town Minnesota so having openly posted prostitutes will be a novel experience.
Stayed at Hotel Brouwer in Feb in 1-5 degree C. weather, so there were definitely no prostitutes about at night! We ladies stayed in a twin room, very comfortable, and LOVED their morning breakfast, as well as the 30 Euro taxi to Schiphol early our departure day that they arranged for us. We felt it was a quiet, safe neighborhood, and we got around fine to all sights, both on foot and w public transportation when it was a bit far.
Thank you. I have made reservations at Hotel Brouwer.
When are you going, Jan?
We will check in to Hotel Brouwer in a week......and will be spending 2 nights there. I'm very excited and pleased it is close to Amsterdam Central.
To my limited knowledge, prostitutes don't roam in the best of weather. They sit in their windows and read magazines.
