We just stayed at the Hotel Abba from June 5th-10th. It is truly a budget hotel so be prepared for that type of hotel. We were traveling with our college age son, and so this meant a triple room, which does limit options. But after looking around extensively, I can say that it was the best hotel we could find for the price range we wanted to spend. And I thought the location was great - it was super close to the Vondelpark and we walked over there a couple of times for a relaxing stroll. The following is from the review I left on booking.com:

Hotel is located in a great area, close to the museums, with tram stops right outside the door and another one around the corner. Several good restaurants, within 1-2 blocks. The price, for Amsterdam, is great. We had a triple and the room was definitely cramped, but considering the price, was what I expected. The room and shared bathroom were very clean, especially for a hotel of this type. There was noise from the street below, but it is a city and since we were right on tram line, that was to be expected (we did keep the windows open at night for fresh air). Breakfast was OK, but not great. However, it was included in the price, so I really can't complain. There is also an Albert Heijn supermarket directly below the hotel, which was super convenient.
Disliked · The stairs are super steep (but this is Amsterdam, so not unusual).
Even though the hotel has a strict no-smoking policy, for one of the nights in the room next to us, which shared our bathroom, the occupants were smoking pot like in a Cheech and Chong Movie. I don't mind pot smoking in general, but it was exceedingly strong and stinky. We didn't feel like complaining to the management and getting them in trouble, so we just lived with it - luckily for only one of the 5 nights we were there.
