I am planning on making a day of the railroad and boat trip that Rick describes in his book. Has anyone else done this and what was your opinion?

Keep in mind that you won't have time to see the Westfries Museum in Hoorn, since the steam train leaves before the museum opens. Also, you'll have limited time at the Zuidersee Open Air Museum in Enkhuizen, since the boat arrives in mid-sfternoon. If time is short, I'd skip that museum's indoor exhibits unless you are a sailing fanatic.
