Hi group. My husband and I will be in Amsterdam in early June and we are going to spend one night in Groningen to attend a soccer match. I uploaded the NS app but I can't seem to find a direct train. I am not sure if I am searching correctly. Is there a direct train Amsterdam to Groningen? Thank you.

Normally there is a direct train, but according to the website, there will be maintenance on the line for quite a while, so you’ll have to change trains at some point. It’s clearer if you look on the website, NS spoor, and you can see what the alternate options are

Changing trains is a normal and expected feature of train travel. The Dutch railways basically run a nationwide mass transit system. And the NS app is the definite source for information. If you want you can even enter the postcode of your accommodation as starting point to get a complete, point to point, travel advise.
There are no direct trains from Amsterdam Centraal to Groningen. The direct trains leave from Amsterdam Zuid, but only once an hour, so you will almost always have one or two trivial changes en route.
