My husband and I will have a couple of days in Amsterdam in late June. We don't want to cram too much into that time, but we would like to get outside of Amsterdam to see something charming in the countryside. We won't rent a car, so we were thinking about a half-day tour of some sort. Looking for any advice as to whether it's worth it, or just pure tourist trap?
You can see a combination of that with a trip to Zaanse Schans museum (http://www.dezaanseschans.nl/en/)
There is no need to be caged in a scheduled bus tour, you can travel there, easily by train.
Nice suggestion; the open-air museums of northern Europe are one of my favorite things. If the sidetrip happens to be on Friday, you could start with the morning cheese market in the town of Alkmaar, then Z.S. for the afternoon.
