Hi Everyone,
Mom and I will be in the Netherlands to see the tulips, in April 2025, high season. We'll be staying in Haarlem as its's charming & cheaper.
We like separate rooms, and I've been searching for a 2 bed apartment, or two hotel rooms within walking distance of the Haarlem station.
Price is very important, so far, I haven't found anything vaguely decent for under 165€ p.day, p.p which would be okay if we were sharing.
Does anyone have recommendations please, for inexpensive, central, accommodation for myself & my elderly, (85) mom in April 2025. Maybe you know of a guest house?
Waiting for my delivery of Rick Steves, Netherlands which I know will have good recommendations but it will take 6 days as I live in France and I 'd prefer to start the booking process now.
Thanks a million in advance, take care: )
Hi again,
Just confirming that I'm searching for a two roomed apartment, with either two bedrooms and /or a separate lounge with a sofa bed or 2 separate hotel rooms.
Thanks : )
I stayed at the Hotel Lion d’Or last year.
Not my favorite hotel, but the location was convenient to the train station.
Prices will be high in April. I hope others will be able to offer additional recommendations.
You might find my trip report helpful. I provided details on the public transportation.
Also, forum member Pat was there this year during tulip season. Her trip report has a lot of great info.
I loved the Netherlands and can’t wait to return. Have a great trip!!
Rick's current edition mentions Haarlem Hotelsuites run by Brass Haarlem and has apartment style units.
He also mentions Hotel Amadeus with small, basic rooms right on Grote Markt with owners who take great care of their guests. (Perhaps 2 rooms needed for this one.)
I loved Haarlem. Wish we'd stayed there instead of Amsterdam this past spring.
Thanks, Carrie for attaching my Trip Report. I also want to return to the NL in the near future. Safe travels!
I highly recommend to read the reviews for hotel Amadeus at for example Tripadvisor.
There are quite a few B&Bs in the city centre all in walking distance from the train station. I don't know what Rick Steves suggests but it may help expand your search beyond the guide to get a good overview of what is available. Be aware that most will have steep stairs so you may consider this in case your mother is not that mobile.
We'll be staying in Haarlem as its's charming & cheaper.
Not to second guess you, but the list is LONG of charming and cheaper large towns/small cities in the Netherlands that you could consider as well.
If you're dead set on Haarlem, it is a nice place to visit for sure. But if the price truly is the highest priority, you really have a much wider selection if you look all around the region where you may find plenty of options.
In addition to enjoying Haarlem, we also enjoyed Leiden and Delft for both charm and many things to see and do. Many other folks have stayed in other pleasant towns.
Hello Everyone,
Thanks very much for your fantastic ideas, suggestions and advice! I highly appreciate your effort and kindness! This information is invaluable and I'll post what I came up with once everything has been consolidated. Hope it'll help others. Very much looking forward to seeing a riot of color in Keukenhof and more. Thanks and enjoy your day : ))
