Good base

Hi
I will be travelling to Netherlands early next year - I am booked for a week in a hotel in Amsterdam .
Prior to this I have an additional 3 days for which I have made a reservation in Ghent which will involves travelling with my luggage to Ghent from Brussels or Schiphol ( my journey would start from Copenhagen) - I am waiting to book flights until I finalise the Ghent part of my itinerary.

Is there any other base in The Netherlands I could choose as against travelling with luggage to Ghent (I understand that Sint Pieters is undergoing renovations ) & do a day trip to Ghent &Brugges instead from Netherlands instead ? Would Den Haag be a good choice to do so -or should I stick to a Schipol hotel so that a transfer to my Amsterdam hotel becomes easier?
Thank you

Not sure I exactly understand your question and options. If you are considering a one day trip to Ghent and back from Schipol (or Amsterdam center, or Den Hague), in my opinion that would be way too much too much travel time for a day trip. But it would be easy travel for spending 3 nights to Ghent with a day trip to Bruges. The train from Amsterdam to Ghent requires a change in Antwerp or Brussels. Transport from the Ghent train station to a hotel with luggage should not be particularly difficult. If flying into Brussels rather than Amsterdam is an option, then staying in Brussels with day trips to Ghent and Bruges would be very doable, as would staying in Ghent or Bruges. The train from Brussels or Ghent to Amsterdam is also easy. If I remember correctly, the only one of your possible train options that requires advance reservation would be a fast train from Brussels to Amsterdam.

The best base for a day trip to Ghent&Bruges is either Ghent or Bruges. You are already selling yourself short by only allocating 1 single day for both cities. Especially given the fact that daylight hours are still very short at that time of year. Staying a 3 hour single train ride away from the furthest city you want to visit (Bruges) will only make things worse. If you can’t stay in either Ghent or Bruges, you can consider Antwerp or Brussels.
