Going through customs at Schiphol

Just wondering about long it takes to get through customs when arriving at Schiphol Airport.

Arriving from where - the US? You will have to go through immigration first - that will take the longest. Could be 10 minutes, could be an hour. Depends how busy it is when you happen to land. After immigration (passport check, usually routine if you have a valid passport that doesn't expire in less than 6 months), you collect your luggage, if any. Then you walk past Customs - probably 10 seconds unless, unlike most people, you have something to declare.

Arriving at Schiphol from another European country (Schengen country)? Then you wouldn't go through immigration at all.

I have only landed from US at Schipol once back in March 2018, and that one time, it took us about 10-minutes to get through immigration, and no time at all to get through customs since we had nothing to declare. However, it all depends on the number of planes landing at that time, and the documentation that the officers need to look through since entry with an American passport is fairly straightforward, but things could be more time consuming with visas, etc.

Please clarify whether Schiphol is your final destination. If instead, you are connecting in Schiphol, where will your incoming flight originate?

Lynn & Rock, are you changing planes anywhere?

This is significant because if you are (for example) landing in Reykjavik, that is also in the Schengen Area, you would go through immigration there and not in Schiphol.
Customs takes zero time (well, about 30 seconds walking through).

Yes, it was Schiphol! We are stopping in Iceland for 19 hours. Renting a car and doing the Golden Circle.

Then you won't have to worry about immigration at Schiphol - just a 10 second walk past customs.
