How do I know which train will get me to Central Station from Schiphol? Flying in on American. How do I get to the train station at the airport and then to Central Station? Thanks in advance.
The train station is directly underneath the airport. After you're done with security, just towards Schiphol Plaza and take the escalator or elevator down to the train platforms. The airport is very easy to maneuver and you should not have any problems. You might want to review the information from the airport website: https://www.schiphol.nl/en/page/by-train-from-schiphol/
Airport websites are a good source for transportation options: https://www.schiphol.nl/nl/pagina/vervoer-vanaf-schiphol/.
It's maybe just a 15 minute train ride. Just a stop or two--per my memory.
The destination boards for trains will show where they go, both destination and major stops along the way.
It will be pretty clear, even if jetlagged. The station is well lit and airy, and signage is very good.
It’s very easy to find the correct train. At Schiphol Airport train station, trains to Amsterdam central always leave from either track 1 or track 2. Tracks 1 and 2 are served by the same platform, which runs in the middle/in between these two tracks. Every train that departs from either side of platform 1/2 will end up at Amsterdam Centraal. Some trains are direct, other trains will make stops along the way. There are up to 10 trains per hour to Amsterdam Central, so you’ll never have to wait long before a train arrives.
If you have a lot of luggage it’s easier to take a Sprinter train. Sprinter trains don’t have any steps to board the train, so you can just roll your luggage onto the train. The Sprinter trains do make stops along the way before they reach Amsterdam Central, but that only means a few minutes extra travel time.
There usually is railway staff on platform 1/2 to assist tourists in finding the right train.
