Need to catch a flight leaving AMS at 1130 am the day cruise arrives @ 0700 in Rotterdam. 2 People with LUGGAGE have to get from shipping Rotterdam to AMS...Anyone done this in a timely manner without Too much effort?? Cruise line won't provide transport to AMS unless Flt leaves at noon or later..
Haven't done it but a quick look at trains says it tales 24 minutes from Rotterdam Centraal to Schiphol. You could take a taxi from the port to Rotterdam Centraal or look up the train logistics from the port to Rotterdam Centraal (if there is one, how often they run, and how long they take...). Or it's a ~45 minutes drive if you wanted to hire a car for the whole thing ...
You should have no problem making it as long as the ship arrives on time.
We went to Rotterdam airport to Schipol in under an hour using public transportation as many train stop at Rotterdam on the way.
You can catch the metro line d to Rotterdam Central train station from the cruise terminal https://www.ret.nl/en/home/travelling-with-the-ret/trip-planner.html
Speak to the Purser and tell him your flight arrangements, so that you can be sure to be among the priority disembarcation crowd. Docking at 7:00 does not mean passengers will get off the ship at 7:00., which you probably already know. Port formalities have to take place first. It will likely be closer to 8:00 am.
I just checked and a taxi transfer from Rotterdam port to Schipol would cost about 90 euro. I know what I would do.
How much luggage? If lots, the metro and train may be too stressful.
Pretty much just the reverse process of what you asked in your other post.
I honestly don't see how you are going to do it. I think you have put the flight too close to the boat in time.
It sound like from your other post that the flight will be the flight home.
If the flight departs at 11:30, and is a flight to North America you need to be at the airport 3 hours ahead - about 8:30. The fastest trains from Rotterdam Centraal to Schiphol go at xx:56 and xx:26 and take 25 minutes. If you are off the boat at 8:00 and can get to Rotterdam Centraal by 8:45 you can get the 8:56 train which goes direct as fast as possible and arrives at the airport at 9:21.
Maybe a taxi would be faster overall, maybe not? That is the rush hour.
Can you have a word with the airline and ask them to let you check in an hour late?
I take it that when put luggage in all caps you mean lots and lots of it?
First of all you do not need LOTS of luggage if you plan right . That only slows you down whatever you do. Many cruiseships have public washers & dryers and if not , they'll do your laundry for you . Yes , it costs a little but not as much as not making your flight . Arriving at 7 am means you're lucky if you get your luggage at 8 am. All luggage is marked with color coded string depending on your flight/destination. Then you go to a large hall to find your luggage so make sure it really stands out . Next passports get checked . Please check Rick Steve's site to see his page on how to travel with only a carry-on.......
You have three options to make it on time. First, if you are in a luxury suite, you can have priority disembarkation. Second, you are walking off--ie, carrying all your own luggage, because Walk Offs have priority disembarkation. Third, you get special exceptions from the Purser, as Norma suggested. You need to be at the airport at 8:30---or see about later check in as Nigel suggested. Either you need to walk off carrying your own luggage, or get a promise IN WRITING that you'll have priority disembarkation, or you need to see about getting a later flight.
