Frans Hals Museum during the Rijks. Exhibit

Hi.

I'm happy to say I have tickets to see the big Frans Hals exhibit a the Rijks this spring.
It seems there are (only) 15 FH paintings on display at the FH Museum at this time and some rooms are closed for a while.

Might anyone have any insights as to how long the rooms will be closed, and/or if a day trip to Haarlem for the FH museum makes good sense in Mid-May? I'm always up for a good museum of art, but sometimes it's just bad timing.

The Netherlands seems to offer so much it is tough to prioritize what to see!

Thanks.

The Frans Halsmuseum is not just about Frans Hals. He spent his later life there and and you will see a few more of the militia paintings he made. The museum is also about the environment he grown up in and he was educated as a painter. Haarlem has played a major role in the Northern Mannerism.in the 16th century and this influenced the painters who resided there heavily afterwards.

Is it the quality of the Mauritshuis in The Hague or Boymans van Beuningen in Rotterdam, maybe not but it still provides context that helps to understand Frans Hals and his work.

Thanks for the reply.

It sounds interesting, I'd like to go. I still wonder about the rooms closed for a new exhibit/renovation. Might too much be closed? I visited the Neue Museum in NYC a while back and though the magnificent Woman in Gold by Klimpt was on view, nearly every other room was closed for renovations. Luckily I did not fly halfway across the globe to see it!

So now I must decide between Haarlem...or...Utrecht as a day trip. I'll have both on the list but must prioritize.....and possibly return!

I appreciate your thoughts :)
