We will be flying from USA and arriving in Amsterdam on a Saturday, at 9:20 am. Would you recommend going directly from the airport to Volendam and Edam or Amsterdam?

Amsterdam, it's close to the airport and where most of the sights are in that part of Netherlands.

It all depends on your overall itinerary. Been to Amsterdam 5 times, always looked for a place in Amsterdam, but wound up staying in Haarlem due to cost and availability. Haarlem is still good for Amsterdam, but if you have interest in the other towns, start there first.
