Hello friends...I'll be spending about 2 weeks in the Netherlands & Belgium this May. I've realized that while I've got a decent list of potential lunch & dinner spots in Delft & Bruges, and more on my list in Amsterdam that I could visit in a month, I don't have anything noted yet for Haarlem where I'll be staying for 5 nights before moving on to Amsterdam. What are your favorite dinner spots in Haarlem? Not looking for super fancy (though also not ruling it out if there's somewhere worth getting dressed up for)...and I'm not a fan of seafood. Just looking for places to have some tasty food & maybe a beer. OK, definitely a beer.
I have kids and so we ate a lot of fries. :). This was a good stop right near the Grote Markt:
De Haerlemsche Vlaamse
The Jopen brewery and restaurant/cafe is located in a former church

Try Cafe Bruxelles (https://www.cafebruxelles.nl), just off the Grote Markt. It is off the beaten track, not fancy and is very reasonably priced with a great beer selection. It has typical bar food, and has a good price-quality.
Maybe less beer related are the Lachende Javaan, although they have Bier Bintang (https://delachendejavaan.com/#restaurant-intro) for Indonesian and, for something completely different, In 't Goede Uur (https://www.hetgoedeuur.nl) for a really nice cheese fondue.
I would just walk around the Riviervismarkt, Oude Groenmarkt, Lange Veerstraat, Kleine Houtstraat and de Warmoestraat in the evening to see whether there is anything to your liking. Most of the restaurants are grouped in that area.
We loved our Indonesian Rijsttafel at https://restaurantflamboyant.nl/indonesian-restaurant-haarlem/.
Haarlem is a great little city!
Thank you all for these great suggestions! They all seem like great spots to relax after a day of sightseeing. I'm definitely into beer, fries & pub food, but I'm also super excited for Indonesian food. I think I will be eating very well on this trip!
Among my friends we often debate which one is better: De Lachende Javaan or Flamboyant? You can test them both to find out.
For fries, try the Frietkamer (http://frietkamer.nl) or the Friethous (https://friethoes.nl) in addition to the one mentioned above.
For beer, in addition to the Jopenkerk, try Uiltje Bar (https://www.uiltjebrewing.com/venue/uiltje-bar/) with quite a few more adventurous brews than the Jopenkerk or Bierlokaal de River (https://bierlokaaldeuiver.nl) with 40 beers on draft. There are a couple of Irish bars around the Grote Kerk.
