The Historic Triangle route gets you to Enkhuizen & Zuiderzee Museum at almost 3 pm, which leaves two hours there. The alternative is to only do steam train and take a taxi down to Enkhuizen, which bypasses the boat ride part of the Historic Triangle. Is it better to take boat ride or spend longer at museum?
I would take the boat. I'm not sure about the immediate availability of a taxi in Medemblik and even if so, it would give you only half an hour extra in the Zuiderzeemuseum.
Enkhuizen is my favourite historical port city in North Holland with its special combination of former glory and village atmosphere. Don't forget to have a walk over the ramparts in the north-western part of the city.
Sorry, I disagree with tonfromleiden. Two hours is not enough time for Enkhuizen. It is a huge open air museum with many wonderful exhibits. I'd plan to stay at least half a day there. You can take a boat trip in other places, but there is only one Enkhuizen.
No way I would try to do both of these in half a day.
I've never ridden the train, but I like Hoorn and I like the town of Enkhuizen and I very much like the open air museum.
They all take time.
Two days, please. Or start in the morning.
Thanks to both of you. Will just forego the steam train/boat ride and take it easy at the Zuiderzeemuseum, and hang in the town for whatever time we have remaining. Robin
