Is Edam, Markham, and Volendam worth a visit? Can you do it in one day by train/bus from Amsterdam?
We went to Edam and Volendam both in one day by bus. They are small. We did enjoy Edam the most and found it worth a visit.
There is a bus combo ticket you can purchase at Amsterdam’s central station. You take the bus to all three places in one day on one ticket. We did it on a Wednesday when Edam has their cheese market. They are dressed in traditional clothes and the had a fun band playing. We purchased some cheese and bread then took the bus to Volendam where we toured the local museum, purchased wine and had a lovely picnic. We then took the ferry to Marken having our coffee and dessert on board. Then the bus back to the station in Amsterdam. It was a great day out of the city.
The website Holland-explorer.com explains it better.
I’ve also done that bus trip.
It’s a great day out in the Waterlands area, and is absolutely worth it.
The villages are lovely.
