We are in Amsterdam, near Amsterdam Centraal and plan to visit the Edam cheese market and Zaanse Schans tomorrow, Wednesday. Have no plans to visit Volendam and Marken, and also not interested in the heavily promoted guided tour. I have heard there is a special public bus # 800 that visits both places during peak season in the summer. Is that correct? I was also trying to look for a staffed Tourist Info Center in Amsterdam to clarify these plans, but such a Center has been impossible to locate on Google. So our plan would be to visit Edam first, check out the Cheese market auction, then on to ZS, and back to Amsterdam. Would appreciate suggestions on how to do this. Thanks!

There is one at the central train station;

Meerplus are the company you want. There are also other buses between these places.
They have a journey planner -https://www.meerplus.nl/
It gives live times.
The service runs as a loop-800 in the ZS to Edam direction, 801 in the other.
Also a train every 15 minutes ZS to Amsterdam
It was raining when we got going in the morning, and ended up taking Uber to both places. That worked out well and the cost was more than bus tickets for all 3 of us, but we saved a lot of time.
