Hello - We would love to visit these two locales during a day trip from Amsterdam.
Can anyone suggest a simple way to connect these two places without having to back track to Amsterdam?

That backtracking to Amsterdam Centraal is a 17-minute journey.
The alternative is getting a train to Purmerend from station Zaandam, and pick up a bus to Edam. More complicated and not quicker.
