Hello! I have finally decided my intinenary (or at least where we will be sleeping while we are in the Netherlands, haha). Now I am figuring out transportation. Previously we were only in Amsterdam so we used the trams and that was easy (tap in/out using my tap CC). When we visited Paris we used the Navigo weekly card (I can't recall the name) where it was around $35 and good for a week on the Paris metro. Is there anything like that for the Netherlands? I see RS doesn't recommend getting the OV-chipkaart because it's really more for locals who would consistently reload & maintain a balance on the card.
I see he also mentions the Eurail Benelux pass, and after checking the price of THAT I'm pretty sure we won't be spending quite that much on trains. We'd need to spend over $600 to justify that pass!
So for example, I was first looking at our route from Leiden (where we'll be spending a couple nights) to Delft (day trip). https://www.ns.nl/en/routes/leiden-to-delft shows that as 6.20 euros per person, per way. Am I correct that it sounds like it's best to just buy any transportation tickets like this, individually ahead of time on the app/website and having a QR code to scan? I see they have a "Season Pass" listed but unfortunately the website is only half translating for me so I haven't yet figured out what that is. I've downloaded both the NS and 9292 apps as recommened by RS in his Amsterdam & The Netherlands book.
During our trip we will likely be going from Schiphol to Leiden, Leiden to Delft and back, Leiden to Utrecht, Utrecht to Amsterdam, and a few day trips from Amsterdam (at least Haarlem and Zaanse Schans). I just want to make sure I'm doing this in, if not the absolutely most economical way, at least not the worst way possible. Thank you all so much for the help!
