We would like to drive ourselves to the tulip fields farms. I thought I read that you can pick the tulips for a few dollars/euros per stem. Can anyone tell where these fields are? Are there maps of the tulip driving route 2019 available yet?
Thank you
Kat
It might be the Bollenstreek you are looking for, between Haarlem and Leiden. https://en.wikivoyage.org/wiki/Bollenstreek
But the best way to experience them is the dutch way, by bike and not by car.
Thank you for the information. Biking would be nice, but not at my age. I will play it safe with walking and auto.
There may be places you can cut your own tulips, but I will say that in several visits to the area over the years I have never noticed that. The flowers are mostly grown for their underground bulb production and then all cut by machine at just the right day. Maybe there is a picking facility somewhere for busloads and drivers - I've just never seen one.
Thank you for your response

Tip toeing would be much better...
In all seriousness, if you drive to Keukenhof you will arrive there by driving through these fields. That entire area is a growing area. Picking, not sure...they are grown for the bulbs....
Here is a link to 4-5 tulip/bulb farms that allow visits. Only one of them says anything about picking. Seeing the cutting, bundling, packaging and shipping process seems to be the focus of other farms.
Thank you everyone for your helpful replies. We will be there this April. So exciting

Perfect timing.... note that this year Kings day is on the 27th. That is a great day to party in Amsterdam...and probably not a good day to do much of anything else.
