Have any of you ever been to this Christmas market and if so would you recommend it? Looks like an easy day trip from Amsterdam.
Never heard of. I thought it was a German thing.
But it is indeed an easy train ride from Amsterdam (1,5 hrs on the normal Intercity service). And Dordrecht is well worth a visit, Christmas market or not.
Thanks TonfromLeiden.
The Christmas market is on dec. 16 , 17 and 18 in 2016 : Here is the website : www.kerstmarktdordrecht.nl/english Have a good time !
Thanks much to you grrttgr - I have been watching and watching for market dates around the Netherlands and they have finally started posting them. I had found Dordrecht and decided to go on the Friday to hopefully avoid larger crowds on the weekend. I am now second guessing myself about Dordrecht as both Leiden and Den Haag have Christmas markets/fairs and I can easily arrange my schedule to be there when they are occurring. There's so many museums I want to see in both of those cities that we are contemplating overnights for 1-2 nights so we have a few hours for Christmas markets. I still may do Dordrecht though.
I wasn't aware Leiden, my adopted hometown for forty years, is also having a Christmas market, but you're right: www.kerstmarkten.nl/kerstmarkten/nederland/leiden/ It's clearly not high on my list of December festivities. Enjoy!
