I find that this varies from airport to airport and like to be prepared.
Sometimes your carry-on goes through the machine and they don’t ask you to separate the liquids bag. Does anyone know what is the practice at AMS now?
The airport website usually has this info.
You do not need to take them out.
At Schiphol, you can leave your liquids and electronics in your bag at
security control. That saves unpacking!

I haven't the last 2 times I've gone through AMS. They're efficient with their security line, too.
You can leave it in your bag: https://www.schiphol.nl/en/prepare-for-your-flight-at-schiphol/prepare-for-security/
From this website https://www.schiphol.nl/en/blog/all-about-your-transfer-at-schiphol/ :
If you're transferring at Schiphol, you might need to go through security or passport control again. This depends on the country you are coming from or travelling to. Are you arriving at Schiphol from the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Singapore, Cyprus, Serbia (only flights from Belgrade), or one of the so-called Schengen countries? Then you do not need to go through security again. Are you transferring from a Schengen country to a non-Schengen country or vice versa? Please keep in mind that you will need to go through passport control again. When transferring from a Schengen country to a non-Schengen country, you may also have to go through security again.
Security control (baggage checks) is sometimes confused with passport control. So you still may need to go through passport control transferring but not through security control in most cases.
I did not have to remove my 3-1-1 bag last month. But I like to have it easy to grab just in case.
But I like to have it easy to grab just in case.
This is smart as you just never know. I flew through Copenhagen in May and had to take my ipad out, even though i checked the website ahead of time and it says tablets must stay in the carry-on baggage. I guess i got the one old scanner that hadn't been switched over yet.
So, best to have liquids and electronics where you can easily reach them.
Thanks to all for your responses!
Two years ago, just as I was about to put my bag on the belt, I remembered I had an unopened bottled water in the side pocket of my bag. I told the gentleman that I just remembered and he said, no problem, we have our ways!
Last month, as we walked by a sign that said water of a certain amount was allowed, then 25 feet later got to the belt and my husband realized he had on unopened water bottle in his outside pocket. The man yelled at my husband to drink the entire bottle immediately or throw it away. My husband went to go find a trash can and the gentleman followed him to the trash can.
We aren't generally trying to carry water bottles through airports but for some reason Amsterdam...twice!
But our liquids were not otherwise pulled out of our bags.
