I will be in Amsterdam for only 1 1/4 days next month, and have determined that instead of going for a multi-course dinner out of the way, I need to go somewhere near the canal tours/museums that we can be out of in two hours or less. We want a nice dinner (like not fast food/counter service), but don't want it to hinder our already limited sightseeing. I'm having a surprisingly hard time with this, and would love some suggestions. Ideally more in the vein of Dutch/French/seafood (though could go for East Asian if necessary), less West or South Asian. Thanks! I saw Pantry ... looks kind of touristy but maybe good anyway? But it is already booked up for our date more than a month from now.
We loved The Pantry and it did not feel touristy at all. We also had great meals at Fulu Mandarin as well as Restaurant 't Zwaantje.
I would keep checking back on The Pantry as people cancel reservations all the time.
Given that you’re into seafood, how about The Seafood Bar? They have multiple locations in Amsterdam, including one near the museums at the Van Baerlestraat https://www.theseafoodbar.com/
Seafood Bar was great but you can get good seafood other places. If you can get into the Pantry, definitely go there! Need to make reservation though.
In addition to the Pantry and the Seafood Bar, I also enjoyed Buffet van Odette at Prinsengracht 598 which google maps says is a 5 minute walk from the Rijksmuseum.
I second Restaurant 't Zwaantje. Great meal. Menu is Dutch and French.
I don't think we spent two hours eating delicious rijstaffel at Sampurna. They serve the dishes all at once. Reservations required.
If you're doing a canal tour in the evening, you can bring along a picnic dinner from Sterk Staaltje, which has lovely salads and sandwiches and wine and beer. https://www.sterkstaaltje.com
