If your group is open to trying new things, adventurous dining-wise, and want
informal vs formal, one suggestion is to go to an Indonesian restaurant and
order the rijsttafel (aka rice table).

It is a curated set of multiple (anywhere from 15-30???) small plates of various
types along with, obviously, rice. Has its origins in the Dutch colonial era in
Indonesia.

It's a fixed price, no one has to order, splitting the bill is pretty easy, and
there is the fun of trying many new dishes.

I’m pretty sure this isn’t central, but we had dinner last night at El Pimpi Tapas and it was fantastic. Service and food were top notch. We had early reservations so we could step next door to our sunset canal cruise with Bows Journey. The place was really starting to fill up as we were finishing our sweet. Like most places you will definitely need to make a reservation.

I agree with Shoeflyer. Our group of 4 enjoyed rijstaffel at Sampurna. Very central. Reservations, obviously, for a party of that size.

We just ate at Sampurna a week ago. I third this suggestion!

Snack idea: Fabels french fries in the Nine Street area.
