My husband and I will have an extra day at the end of a river cruise on 9-11-24. We have been to Amsterdam and Haarlem before. We are looking for a day trip. If you had to choose between Delft and Leiden which would you choose and why?
Here is a previous discussion:

Either would be fine.
My general impression is that Delft is a bit more "quaint", the canals are narrower, the buildings older, and less traffic (cars, bikes, and pedestrians) in the city center.
Leiden is almost as nice, but more of a working city in the city center.
If I were making a choice, it would be tough, I probably would look to see if one was having a market that day, and opt for that destination.
Of course each have specific museums and sights, if something interests you, then that changes the decision.
Check out Mary's link above. I contributed to that and I do love Leiden, but have not been to Delft. The thread in the link has a number of things that you might want to think about with regards to your choice.
