In April I will be returning to Amsterdam for 5 full days. Having been there before, I would like to visit Delft.
I have seen some organized tours that include both Delft and the Hague (where I am intersted in visiting the art museum.)
The tours seem to only allow 2 to 2 1/2 hours in each city. It's something, but it doesn't sound like much time. Please comment on going solo as a day trip to one city or the other.

Is there a specific reason why you would want to take a tour? Both The Hague and Delft can easily be reached by train from Amsterdam. That way you can explore these cities in your own time.

No tour is necessary! Take the train from Amsterdam to one city and then very easily travel the very short distance to the other via train or tram! Visit both in one day, easy. It will be an easy and wonderful day in both The Hague and Delft!

My husband and I will be in Amsterdam at the end of next week and this is exactly what we're doing one day. Rick's Amsterdam and the Netherlands book has a section on day tripping to the Hague and Delft. You can train to either the Hague or Delft and take a tram between the two easily. Delft sounds very walkable and I believe there are plentiful buses and trams in the Hague if you are going outside the city center.

We did a day trip to Delft just the other week. It was super easy to just buy the tickets on the app on my phone and then do everything ourselves. It was a wonderful day, do not short change it! We went to the Delft Factory/Museum and figured we would spend a little bit of time, but wow, it was fascinating and we ended up spending quite a bit of time there. It is an easy walk from there to the main downtown area. Go in the morning and then return in the evening. The trains do get busy at rush hour, so avoid that if you can.

There is no need to buy train tickets in the Netherlands. You can just tap in and out at the stations with your credit card.

@Carrie I had read your trip report previously. Thanks for linking it again. I didn't know about tapping in and out with our credit cards. I need to read up on tapping in and out from and to Schiphol, too. I haven't been to Amsterdam since 2018 and we used the OV chipkaart.

Definitely take the trains. First to Den Haag & walk a bit to the Maurithuis. Bus at the train station to Delft and walk to the Markt with City Hall & "New Church". If good weather, lunch at the Markt square. Train back to Amsterdam from Delft station.
