Day Trip via train to Zaanse Schans and Haarlem

I plan on visiting both Zaanse Schans and Haarlem on the same day. I will be leaving and returning to Amsterdam Centraal Station. I know most peope will say this is too much in one same day; and other might say Zaanse Schans is too touristy. However, I welcome any suggestions as the best route to travel. I plan to be in Amsterdam around March 8, 2014.

Thanks

Zaanse Schans is a nice museum with an adjacent park. I don't consider it too touristy. The windmills you find there were saved from other farms on the area and moved there for preservation.

If you want to visit both places in one day, you can take a train from Amsterdam Centraal to Koog-Zandijk, then walk 500m to the entrance of Zaanse Schans. Then, there is a trick: instead of backtracking to Amsterdam Centraal, take a train from Koog-Zandijk to Uitgeest, and transfer there to Haarlem.

Andre,
Thanks this is just what I wanted. I didn't want to return to ACS then head to Haarlem.

Again thanks

What the best way to pay for train travel (several day trips) during my visit to Amesterdam? OV-chipkaart or several return tickets.
Also, I plan to see several museums (some in other Dutch cities) Which is better the Museumkaart or I Amsterdam Card. Note: My last visit to Amesterdam was in 2007

If you are going to take many train and local transportation trips, an OV-Chipkaart makes everything easier (no need to buy individual tickets which, by the way, are now being converted into disposable OV-Chipkaarten anyway).

As for the Museumkaart, its value-for-money depends on the actual museums you are planning to visit. There is not direct answer: check www.museumkaart.nl and make your calculations. "Museumkaart geldig" means "Museum card accepted for entrance".
