Day trip Utrecht to Nijmegen and Amersfoort

We Have traveled many Towns, City's in Holland, and are aways looking to explore more.
This trip, we are booked and based in Utrecht for 3 days, in August.
We have stayed once in Utrecht, and visited it 3 times, great place.(it is why its our home base)

We are planning a day trip, to Nijmegen, with no rush back to Utrecht.
Would like some thoughts on , Nijmegen, probably will spend 8 to 10 hrs there.

Also any thoughts on a day trip to Amersfoort

There are a lot of cities that can be easily reached from Utrecht. Yet you chose these 2 specific cities. In order to help you better it would be helpful to know why. What’s there that interests you? What do you like to see and do in cities? Visit museums? Shop? Take a guided tour
