Day Trip from Amsterdam

Is it possible to do a day trip to Delft and The Hague in one day? Head to Delft, do a walking tour and late lunch and then to The Hague & the Mauritshuis Museum. If we do this on Monday the museum is open late I think.

The Mauritshuis has normal opening hours on Monday (till 18.00), but distances are short. It's 1 hr from Amsterdam to Delft and 15 mins from Delft to Den Haag (make sure to have the train to Den Haag CS and not Den Haag HS), and at that time of day trains run around every 15 mins.

My husband and I did this side trip from Amsterdam. We opted for a half-day tour and booked through Viator. Viator is really the middle man as they contracted the local Lindbergh Excursions, located on Damrak 26. It was a worthwhile excursion and good for us since we didn't want to have to rent a car and drive.

Delft and Hague are easily reached by direct trains from Amsterdam Centraal, not necessary to rent a car or do an organized tour.

I just got back from RS Holland/Belgium tour last week. While we were in delft and had the free afternoon we took the tram to The Hague. My grandparents use to live there and I visit there the summer I turned 4. Had enough time to find their house (the owners were not home at the time, I knocked on their door to visit), then we made are way back to the Mauritshuis museum and back to delft for dinner. We stayed two days after our tour was over in Amsterdam. The last day we took the train from Amsterdam Centraal back to The Hague and went to Madurodam for the morning, then got back on tram to the Scheveningen Pier to the beach and north sea for a little while. Then back on tram to Delft because we never made it to the Prinsenholf museum and back to The Hague to catch the train back to Amsterdam Centraal by 6pm. It is amazing how much you can do in a day!.

a half-day tour
As noted above, there is no need at all for a tour. Buy a return ticket to Delft, which should be EUR 26 per person (plus a small surcharge for paper ticket and/or use of credit card). Get the Intercity train to either Vlissingen or Dordrecht. In Delft the station is a few minutes' walk to the historical centre. Back at the station, get an Intercity or a Sprinter train to Den Haag Centraal. From there it's a 10 min walk to the Mauritshuis. It can't go wrong, and you're a mistress of your own time.
