City excursions from Haarlem

We will be based in Haarlem for the first leg of our trip in late August. We are trying to determine the best order to visit other cities after spending 2 full days in Haarlem.

Here are our current thoughts for each of 3 days excursions from Haarlem:
1) Train to Rotterdam and spend most of the day there (RS walking tour, harbor tour, etc.)
2) Hoorn, Enkhuizan, and Zuiderzee
3) Train Leiden and then Delft (or vice-versa?)

Does this sound like a good order? Is it easy to combine Leiden and Delft in one day going first to Leiden?

That works -- We really enjoyed the Hoorn trip on the old train. And do try the smoked herring. It looks awful but taste is great.

Looks very doable. Distances are short and trains are frequent (even Enkhuizen is just over one hour from Haarlem).
You should perhaps first visit Enkhuizen and then Hoorn. Enkhuizen is wonderful to explore, and the Zuiderzee Museum might take some time. In Hoorn the Westfries Museum is well worth a visit, if only for an impressive series of militia paintings.
Try to visit Leiden on a Saturday, when there is a huge market behind the Town Hall.

Sounds like I'm on the right track with this itinerary. Thanks for the responses.

Frank - I'll try the smoked herring for sure. Used to like pickled herring but havn't had it for years.

Tonfromleiden - That order looks good to me. It turns out we will probably be in Leiden on a Saturday.

If the weather is nice you could visit the beach at Zandvoort if you wanted something that did not take too much time to get to . . Just a skip from Haarlem by bus ( or train ) to get a fresh salt herring .
