We are taking a Rhine river cruise in a few weeks and we were notified today from our travel agency that the Christmas markets in Amsterdam would be closed his season. Does anyone have any info as to why and does these mean all the Christmas markets in the city? The travel agency had no additional information. Thanks.

Walking route through Plantage area: Dec 15-Jan 8 17:00-22:00
Pick up map of walking route from VVV outside of Centraal. The walking route starts at Amstel 3. From Central Station, the walking route can be reached by foot, tram or metro.
By foot, from Central Station:
The start of Illuminade is a 20-minute walk from Central Station, via the Damrak, Rokin and Staalstraat to Café Amstelhoeck.
By tram, from Central Station:
Tram 9 stops in front of the Muziektheater. Tram 16, 24, 25 and 4 stops at Muntplein, a 5-minute walk to the start of the walking route.
Light Festival Canal Cruise Dec 1- Jan 22 17:00-23:00
The Christmas market in Haarlem (15 minute train ride plus 10 minute walk into town) is December 10 & 11.
