My husband and I will be in Amsterdam for a few days. We'll use most of our time to see the city but are thinking of spending a day exploring something nearby. We won't have a car. I have no idea what a cheese market is, other than most of the info I've found so far says they're not actual cheese markets, but rather a representation of what a cheese market may have been in the past? Bottom line is, I love cheese, and this sounds intriguing. Would this be a worthwhile trip, from a cultural (and cheese) perspective? Is it easy to get to with public transportation? Are there any small group tours that do this? Is there something you'd recommend we do instead? Thanks in advance!
Do you mean something like Alkmaar? https://youtu.be/7edMEdBgy7A
There are 5 cities with cheese markets and all within easy reach of Amsterdam. Alkmaar, Edam and Hoorn are for tourists, Woerden and Gouda are still authentic but with a tourisitic twist. You can take the train for both Woerden and Gouda, with a change in Utrecht.

Cheese market in Gouda every Thursday at 10 am is fun. Was there this week.
There is also a Cheese Museum in Amsterdam. http://www.cheesemuseumamsterdam.com/ The top level is a cheese shop and the museum is on the lower level. It's across the canal from Anne Frank House.
